How many rollovers may occur in a particular lottery?

Lotto rollovers occur, when none of the players hits the jackpot. In such case, the pool from the previous draw gets rolled over to the next draw. Increased jackpot makes the lottery more attractive, while rollover makes it possible to win even a few hundreds of million dollars.

Each of the lotteries has its own specific rules regarding the rollovers. Some of the lotteries don’t limit the jackpot. This means, that the prize may keep on rising until at least one of the players picks the numbers correctly. Lotteries without a jackpot limit are Powerball, SuperEnalotto, Mega Millions and Polish Lotto.

Rollover limits for other lotteries:

UK Lottery – the jackpot can be rolled over 4 times. If none of the players hits the jackpot after four draws, the prize gets split between 2nd tier prize winners.

EuroMillions – the maximum prize in this European lottery is 190 million euros. If none of the players picks the numbers correctly when such a rollover occurs, the prize gets split between 2nd tier prize winners.

Eurojackpot – jackpot may rise up to 90 million euros or get rolled over 12 times. If none of the players picks the drawn numbers correctly after 12 draws, the prize gets split between 2nd tier prize winners.

What does “jackpot” mean?

“Jackpot” is a synonym of the word “rollover” and means that none of the players hasn’t hit the main prize, so the pool gets rolled over to the next draw. In some cases i.e. Mega Millions there is no limit for the jackpot, some lotteries limit it to a specified amount, i.e. EuroMillions jackpot can reach 190 000 000€.
