Many players outside the United States believe “Lotto America” is just another name for the most popular American lotteries, Powerball and Mega Millions. Lotto America, on the other hand, is a separate lottery with a long and illustrious history.
The original Lotto America was first drawn on February 13, 1988. Until April 1992, it was a lottery that was available in 15 states. This lottery had more regional names in some states, such as “Lotto Minnesota.” Initially, a player had to choose seven numbers from 1 to 40. The rules have changed after a few years. Lotto America evolved into a more traditional lottery with a 6/54 guess range.
In April 1992 Lotto America was replaced by the Powerball lottery.
Due to a Hot Lotto fraud scandal, a new version of Lotto America was launched in 2017. On November 15, 2017, the first draw of a new Lotto America was held. Since then, the popularity of Lotto America has grown rapidly, including among our players at LottoPark.
To play Lotto America, a player must choose 5 basic numbers from a 1-52 range and one additional “Star Ball” number from a 1-10 range.
To win the Lotto America jackpot, all of your numbers must match the official Lotto America results and winning numbers.
The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 25,989,600. That is why so many people choose this lottery: the chances of winning the Lotto America jackpot are much better than the chances of winning the Powerball (1 in 292,201,338)!
Attention! To play Lotto America in Iowa, you must be 21 years old. To play for Lotto America prizes at LottoPark, you must be at least 18 years old.
Lotto America’s prizes and jackpots aren’t as large as those in Powerball or Mega Millions, but they’re still worth your time.
The Lotto America jackpot starts at $ 2,000,000 and can grow if no players match all of the numbers to the official winning numbers. Because the rollover has no limits, the jackpot can grow to enormous proportions.
If more than one lucky player matches their numbers to the Lotto America results, the jackpot is split among all first-tier prize winners.
Other Lotto America prizes (tiers 2–9) are fixed, so a player knows exactly how much he can win for matching only a “Star Ball,” two basic numbers, five basic numbers, and so on.
The odds of winning any Lotto America prize are one in 9.63.
The table below contains all of the Lotto America prize and jackpot information. You can also find information about your chances of winning the jackpot and other prizes there.
All Lotto America prizes worth more than 600 USD are subject to a federal tax of 28 percent (non-residents or players from other countries 30 percent ). We also recommend that you check the tax laws in your country of residence.
The deadline for claiming Lotto America prizes varies by state and ranges from 90 days to a year.
When a player wins the Lotto America jackpot, he can receive his winning as annuity payments or in cash lumps. If the lucky winner picks the annuity option, he will receive the entire jackpot amount in 30 annual payments.
If the jackpot is shared among lucky winners of the first tier prize and a single winning is worth $ 250,000 or less, MUSL has the option of paying the winnings in a cash lump sum.
Debbie Kujava and her family from Badger won the largest Lotto America jackpot. On March 14, 2018, they won $ 22,000,000. Debbie and her brother Dennis made an agreement that if one of them won the lottery, they would split the prize. They chose the cash option, so they will receive $ 13,000,000 before taxes.
A lucky player from Elk River in Sherburne County (Minnesota) won $ 21,600,000 on July 20, 2019. This lucky winner split his prize with his wife. Before taxes, the cash prize was $ 14,000,000.
