A winner can take the annuity – 30 annual payments, each larger than the previous one – or a single lump sum, estimated at US$162.1 million. The cash value is about 40% of the headline amount. Both options are subject to taxes.
The US$5 Ticket and Its Built-In Multiplier
In the US, a Mega Millions play costs US$5, and each line has a built-in multiplier. It is chosen at random when the ticket is printed and multiplies every prize except the jackpot. According to the official rules, the multiplier is drawn from a pool of 32: fifteen 2x, ten 3x, four 4x, two 5x and one 10x. So almost half of all lines carry a 2x, and only one in 32 gets a 10x.

The drawing takes place on Friday, 16 October 2026, at 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time, which is 03:00 UTC on Saturday, 17 October. If no one wins, the next drawing is on Tuesday, 20 October.
